Portfolio Show
Annually each Spring, the School of Film offers a course in Portfolio and Professional Development which prepares graduating film students for the job search and ultimately, careers in media production.
The experience culminates in a portfolio show where students present their work and themselves as emerging professionals to the school community, alumni, peers, friends, family, and to established media professionals.
Essays
Each year the School of Film awards the best film essays submitted for consideration. The judges are PSU film faculty and any paper written in a film class over the previous year is eligible.
The School of Film offers a strong foundation in film studies including film analysis, film theory and film history. Students learn to analyze cinema as an artistic, cultural, political, and historical medium while engaging with global film traditions, critical theory, and questions of representation and ideology.
Films
School of Film faculty select a set of student-produced work to showcase each year. Distinctions are awarded to the top three films.
Production coursework spans the entire filmmaking process, emphasizing hands-on collaboration, creative experimentation, and professional-level technical training, preparing students to become adaptable storytellers who can work across fiction, nonfiction, branded media, stop motion animation, and experimental forms.
